Two suspected robbers in custody at Asiwa, near Lake Bosomtwe in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region, have escaped.
The two suspects , who are on the run from the cells were only recently arrested for their involvement in illegal mining and the
theft of some excavators.
The suspects, whose names are yet to be released by the police, escaped on Sunday through the cell windows after cutting the
iron rods with a hacksaw blade.
According to the District Chief Executive of area, Kwame Adarkwa, he had information prior to the incident that someone
who had come to visit the suspects tried to smuggle a hacksaw blade into the cell in a food package.
He said when the incident was brought to the police’s attention, no action was taken and the following day he was informed that the two suspects had escaped.
Before the incident, the escapees were being processed for court next week Monday.
